POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

The Community Liaison for the ARK Project is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the ARK Project Program. The ARK Project is a goal-oriented resource center and outreach program for youth and families who are in need of help and resources, or who might be houseless. The ARK Project is open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The work hours for this position may include flexible hours, including mornings and evenings.  The average workday would be Monday - Thursday, 8:00-5:15 and a shorter day on Friday.

 

The Community Liaison may be asked to work evenings or flex hours in order to serve the needs of the program. Occasion weekends or attendance at conferences may be required.

 

The Community Liaison supports the ARK program by assisting with monitoring and reporting grants to their supervisor for review/submission.  Grants that may come from a variety of sources, such as the Department of Education through the McKinney-Vento Act, City of Coos Bay, and the Bay Area Hospital. Survival of the ARK Project is dependent on maintaining these diverse funding streams and developing additional opportunities for funding. The Community Liaison needs to be proactive in determining and pursuing these opportunities.

 

The work environment includes staffing the ARK Project drop-in center, aiding and assisting approximately 10-15 houseless/at-risk youth and families per day. Additional requirements include obtaining various types of donations from community partners and agencies. Also, conducting home visits with CBSD staff. The Community Liaison must have the ability to work with diverse age, race, and socioeconomic populations, which includes making contact with them at shelters, campgrounds, motels, and in homes as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Completed at least two years of related college education, an AA degree, or meet the
  2. Highly Qualified requirements by passing the Paraprofessional Praxis Exam
  3. Must hold valid Oregon Driver’s license and current proof of car insurance and earn a Type 20 drivers permit through Oregon Department of Education.
  4. Must provide own transportation (mileage will be reimbursed) and be willing to drive from school to school
  5. Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative
  6. Must be able to work consistently within a set but somewhat flexible schedule
  7. Demonstrated ability to work positively with staff, students, administration and the public
  8. Knowledge of local services and community resources

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environments combine a standard classroom setting including standard classroom equipment (assistive technology, copier, phone, Chromebook or computer, audio/visual equipment etc.) in a standard school setting. This work environment also combines being exposed to the elements outdoors and sometimes in students’ homes. This has the potential to introduce additional environmental elements such as animals, parents, community members, noise levels. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and/or physically and emotionally dysregulated students and/or parents.
