Job Title:   Substitute School Nurse

                    

               

Position Description

 

This posting establishes a pool of candidates for substitute nursing positions at various schools. This position may also include one on one nursing for students. 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Oregon State Board of Nursing License - RN license required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, desired, but not required

 

JOB GOAL:  To provide and create a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts all required health assessment programs.
  1. Evaluates student medical and developmental histories as part of the health assessment needed.
  1. Uses information gathered from health assessment to identify health problems.
  1. Makes valid referrals of student’s identified health problems.
  2. Plans and coordinates health service programs for appraisal, referral and follow-up.
  1. Plans and coordinates communicable disease investigations as needed.
  1. Plans with the school administrator to implement school health laws.
  1. Identifies students and families who need health counseling.
  1. Provides health counseling to those in need.
  1. Keeps appropriate personnel informed of counseling progress.
  1. Utilizes student, staff and parent contacts for “teachable moment” health curriculum.
  1. Makes constructive contributions to the health curriculum.
  1. Assists classroom teachers to present health resource concepts more effectively.
  1. Acts as a scientifically reliable health resource person for parents.
  1. Uses the following methods for communicating with parents: home visits, telephone, school conference, printed forms and written information.                                 
  1. Acts as an effective liaison person between the school, health professionals, and the community and if applicable, a student's IEP or 504 teams.
  1. Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with parents, building personnel, district staff and community agencies.
  1. Uses services of ESD, health professionals and community agencies.
  1. Establishes an effective system for emergency care of sick and injured.
  1. Performs efficiently in emergency situations.
  1. Uses good nursing techniques in the care of the sick and injured.
  1. Responds to referrals and gives feedback to referring person.
  1. Maintains complete up-to-date cumulative health records for each student.
  1. Maintains up-to-date confidential list of students with special health problems.
  1. Evaluates and revises school nursing procedures to meet the needs of the school.
  1. Participates in Health Service Program evaluation.
  1. Maintains regular attendance in order to preserve continuity.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by Principal and/or Supervisor.

 

 

Length of Contract:           School year contract

 

Starting Date:                     As soon as hiring process has been completed
