Job Title:   Educational Assistant - Elementary (Preschool)  

 

33.5 hours per week (.821 FTE)

Position Description:

The Preschool Promise Program is a high-quality, publicly funded preschool program that serves children age four (4) in families living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, children in foster care and children from other historically underserved populations.

 

The Pre-Kindergarten educational assistant will support and promote each child’s learning, wellbeing, and development in cooperation with their parents and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with Oregon Early Learning standards, USDA, and licensed childcare rules and regulations. The Pre-Kindergarten Educational Assistant assists with the developmental screening and follow-up and plans and provides a developmentally and culturally appropriate classroom experience which meets the needs of all children and their families.

 

The EA will assist the teacher in the promotion of parent involvement by: providing tools and supports to parents as the primary educators of their child; planning and scheduling home visits and parent/teacher conferences; and engaging parents in their child’s learning as appropriate.

Qualifications:

 

The following describe the Preschool Promise Educational Assistant qualifications:

  • Experience working in a preschool or early learning environment
  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtained an associate's degree or higher; or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics or the instruction in readiness for these subjects. (This test is available to take locally at WorkForce Oregon, free of charge.)
  • Ability to work with and lead preschool students in group and individual activities.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and work within an environment of changing priorities, needs and interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, internet software and word processing software.
  • Hold a valid First Aid card (or willing to meet this requirement after hiring)

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assists teacher in classroom by supervising students in classroom activities.
  • Assists teacher with record keeping, copying, filing, grading assignments and attendance.
  • Follows prescribed daily schedule as outlined by teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in the set up and maintenance of the classroom, materials and supplies.
  • Maintains safe environment for students at all times.
  • Assists with loading and unloading children from buses, transitioning kids from recess and assisting in personal care and training (toilet)
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries.
  • Performs physical labor as required.
  • Maintains regular attendance in order to preserve continuity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Teacher, Principal and/or Supervisor.
